Wonderland Twist
By: Megan N. Tierney
How loud it could be, sitting so quietly,
As I ran my fingers over the flowers.
How soft twas the touch of unkept wild grass,
With dew-dropped blades cutting like glass.
I was startled to find I wasn’t alone.
Why, he had been with me all on his own.
I had not asked yet there he was,
Brushing my face with his soft furry fuzz.
The cat’s smile was crazed and dizzy,
His outlook on life a little bit fizzy.
He smiled his sin,
A sinful grin,
And suddenly, I deeply missed home.
He gestured to come, to follow his path,
All the way out to the hole.
I peeked but once in,
And down went my chin,
Carrying the rest of me whole.
Down I fell, for hours and hours,
And finally, stop. Abrupt.
Quick and easy.
Falling for hours had made me quite queasy.
I turned and observed a gate iron and wrought,
This be the gateway to folly.
Why behind this door is none other than,
The magical wonders of Wonderland.
